Moab Recommendations and Activities

For the most variety of outdoor choices in Moab, plan a visit anytime from early spring to late fall. Activities such as hiking, mountain biking and climbing are best taken advantage of in the cooler desert months throughout spring and fall. Once the temperatures start to rise and the snow begins to melt, it is the ideal time to seek out a rafting adventure or canyoneering trip! For the biggest river thrills, check out trips departing in late spring and early summer when the snow run-off is highest. Downtown shopping, off-road excursions, driving scenic byways, skydiving, ballooning, scenic flights and base jumping can be enjoyed throughout the entire year! Take note, Moab is busiest in the fall but come winter, it returns to its natural state of quiet, vast wilderness.

Home to the greatest mountain biking in this world, Moab offers a massive variety of trails for mountain bikers of all ages and experience levels. Moab is most well-known for Slickrock Bike Trail, a highly technical and challenging trail that many consider to be the ultimate mountain biking excursion. For those looking for easier scenic views or a great family outing, check out Dead Horse Point State Park. Please click here for a comprehensive list of mountain biking areas, trails and maps to compliment. Bicycle can be rented, purchased and/or repaired at shops such as Poison Spider BicyclesRim Cyclery and Chile Pepper Bike Shop, just to name a few.

If off-road adventure via jeep or four-wheeling is your jam, Moab is a go-to destination! Near endless 4×4 trails and old mining roads at your fingertips will leave plenty of room to explore. Trails can be discovered with your own vehicle, by renting a jeep, or taking a guided tour. Detailed 4 wheel drive maps and trail guides can be found at the Moab Information Center (MIC). Trail difficulties range from simple and scenic 2-wheel drive to the utmost challenging 4-wheel drive trails. Jeeps and tours can be booked all over Moab, but here are a few to get you started: Twisted JeepsBarlow AdventuresHigh Point Hummer. Scroll down to the bottom of this page to find a list of 4×4 trails in Moab and their descriptions/details.

Don’t let winters in Utah discourage you; Moab has numerous opportunities to enjoy the cooler months. Check out Arches National Park for some epic snowtography, where you are sure to find sunlit, snow-covered arches beaming in the winter sun. There is even backcountry skiing in the La Sal Mountains for every skill level! If you’re hoping to extend the climbing season, check out Big Bend in addition to Wall Street (morning to mid-day) and Kane Creek (afternoon). These spots benefit from daylong sun exposure, ensuring just the right warmth for all day climbing. Moab offers two amazing disc golf courses and they are open all year. Head over to the Moab Golf Course for year long play (weather permitting) and enjoy the beautiful 18 hole course nestled in the red rocks. Last, but not least, there is opportunity for snow biking along the Porcupine Rim or snowshoeing within Bryce Canyon.

Moab is an outdoor enthusiasts dream coupled with small resort town hospitality, making it one of the most sought after destinations in the American Southwest. With such an extensive list of outdoor activities, you’re sure to work up an appetite for any meal. Moab boasts two breweries alongside a diverse array of cuisines, including a surprising number of gourmet-class restaurants.

Your Moab Area Expert

The surrounding landscape in the Moab area is truly a sight to behold and I can't wait for you to experience it! There are countless ways to enjoy the Moab adventure, from mountain biking to jeeping to epic hiking, sightseeing and paddleboarding, there's truly something for everyone! The mild Moab weather makes it delightful to visit any time of the year but many return visitors are realizing that our summer and winter "off seasons" are actually a great time to visit to avoid the crowds. Canyonlands and Arches National Parks in particular are very special in November and throughout the winter.

It's when we locals enjoy the quieter Moab outdoors. For a scenic drive, I highly recommend taking River Road (Hwy 128) out to Castle Valley. The road follows the Colorado River through a red rock canyon and out to Castle Valley and Fisher Towers where there are amazing towers and one-of-a-kind formations. This area is great for hiking, biking and off-roading too. One of my favorite hikes is the Grandstaff Trail to Morning Glory Bridge. This hike is a moderate out and back and is great for families and dogs. My family loves to climb and some of our favorite spots for sport and trad climbing are Wall Street and Cinema/Theater walls.

If you're into multi-pitch, checkout Castleton Tower, an epic 400' tower and Ancient Art - The Stolen Chimney, a delicate sandstone feature in the Castle Valley/Fisher area. If you're a climber, these should be on your bucket list! Biking in Moab is HUGE of course and our favorite trails are Slickrock in Sand Flats, Sidewinder in Moab Brands, and Bull Run in Gemini Bridges.

If you're an advanced rider, don't miss the seasonal window to complete The Whole Enchilada...another great bucket list add! After a great day of riding or climbing, my favorite spot to grab a burger and beer (or margarita!) is Dewey's in downtown Moab. They have a great menu, bar and their service is exceptional. We have so many other recommendations and we would love to help you make your trip perfect! Give us a call anytime. We can't wait to share our amazing area with you!
